Staying at the Palm River Hotel, Zimbabwe

For our last leg in Zimbabwe, we stayed at the Ilala Lodge and the Palm River Hotel, two sister properties situated on the banks of the mighty Victoria Falls. We were so excited to excited to be back in this region, which if you recall was one of the highlights of 2021. The Palm River Hotel is a luxury accommodation along the tranquil Zambezi, one of Africa's five big rivers. It was the second property we stayed at in Zimbabwe.

Location Location Location!

When it comes to seeing the popular attractions, we prefer staying as close as possible to make the most of our visits. Unlike the Ilala lodge, the Palm hotel is a little farther away from the action but fret not, the hotel offers shuttle services to the city every day. I really liked this idea of staying away from the hustle of the city but everything was still accessible.

Lounge and Common Areas

The common areas are done up with exquisite taste and elegance. Fine dark wood, tall ceilings, ornate chandeliers and fine linen. The entire setting has place has a colonial feel to it.

Rooms

The rooms are generous in spacing with elegant aesthetics, a huge king bed. The room comes with a spacious double vanity bathroom. These rooms also come with a fully stocked mini-fridge, ceiling fan, TV, wifi and a fantastic view of the garden. We loved quiet the sun-kissed mornings. Heavenly.

Dining Area

The setting is much more grand here, with the dining and bar areas giving the whole place a rather romantic whimsical vibe straight out of Sir Livingstone's tales. Tall ceilings, huge chandeliers, neatly laid out chairs, this was our favorite space in the resort.

Food

For lunch, we tried the cheddar cheese sandwich that came with a generous portion of fries. SO GOOD. The hotel also serves up a cute high-tea at 4 p.m. every afternoon, just the best way to watch the golden hour over the river. For dinner, we ordered room-service, needless to say the Asian food was spot on.

Breakfast was scrumptious with cold and hot food options for all dietary preferences.

Things to do

When in Victoria Falls, there are things you don't want to miss. There are no dearth of activities either - from the strenuous to the relaxed. Choose from

- sunset river cruise

- devil's pool

- walking inside the Victoria Falls park

- river rafting

- ziplining

- helicopter ride

The concierge team are amazing, they will give your competitive rates and wonderful recommendations for any activities you choose.

Final Thoughts

As always, I am a big fan of mixing up properties if there is time to relax. If taking it slow is your jam, then this is the best property for you to do so. There is no better place to kick back and enjoy that cocktail as you watch the sun go down over the horizon.

Disclaimer: we were offered a partial complimentary stay at the property in exchange for a post about our experience but all opinions expressed here are my own and completely honest. I also earn no commission from you choosing to book with them.
