Doha Tourism: Exploring Qatar Beyond a Layover

Bringing you a curated guide from this tiny palm-shaped country just an hour from our home base, Dubai. Whether you’re in transit or planning a quick escape, Qatar is the perfect blend of traditional Arab charm and modern elegance—and this blog will show you how to do justice to Doha tourism in just 3-4 days.

This trip was about diving beyond the shiny skyline to explore ancient villages, desert landscapes, rich culture, and of course, souqs and skyline views

Itinerary Summary (3 Nights, 4 Days)

Flights, Visa and Immigration (if traveling with an Indian passport from Dubai)

I flew with Air Arabia from Sharjah to Doha. It was a short one hour flight.

Since I am a resident in the GCC, I was eligible for a free Visa On Arrival, provided I fulfilled certain travel requirements, which are as below:

• Your occupation has to be approved by the Qatar Ministry

• You have to have reservation stay for a minimum of two nights in the hotels listed on Visa On Arrival hotels on Discover Qatar

• You have a travel health insurance from the list of pre-approved Qatar companies. I went with QIC.

Language

Arabic is the official language. English widely spoken in Doha.

Best Time to Visit

November to March offers mild desert weather.

Currency

Carried USD and exchanged a little; cards work well in Doha.

Getting Around

Outside the city: Rent a car or book tours from providers like Qatar Inbound Tours or 365 Adventures Qatar

Where I Stayed

🏨 Four Points Sheraton Doha Located near the Souq, metro, and restaurants. As a Marriott Bonvoy member, I was upgraded to a spacious room with skyline views. Great service and buffet breakfast!

Final Thoughts

“Why Qatar?” people ask. And my answer is: Because it surprises you.

Most see Qatar as a stopover or confuse it with its glitzier neighbors.

But Doha tourism is about so much more—historic forts, evolving art scenes, architectural gems, abandoned towns, and golden dunes meeting blue seas.While it’s one of the richest countries in the world, it didn’t feel showy. Instead, what stood out were the contrasts—tradition meets innovation, and stillness meets progress.

If you only have a few days and are flying through the Gulf, don’t just pass through—stay a while, explore, and let Qatar charm you.
